The Big Bang Theory aired for 12 seasons on CBS from 2007 to 2019. It was one of the most successful sitcoms in television history, attracting close to 18 million viewers for its series finale.
Fan-favorite Kaley Cuoco played the role of Penny, the sexy girl that lived across the hall from a group of nerdy physicists. Appearing in 278 episodes, Cuoco had her share of good times with fellow cast members. She has also enjoyed working with many talented actors who frequently made guest star appearances on the show.
There are two episodes in particular that the 35-year-old actor fondly refers to as her favorites. Can you guess which ones she picked?
It all started with a bang
The premise behind the show revolves around the lives of a group of young friends that are brilliant colleagues working together at Cal Tech. Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) is the eccentric ringleader who encourages his best friends in hilariously unconventional ways.
Together with physicist Leonard (Johnny Galecki), mechanical engineer Howard (Simon Helberg), and astrophysicist Rajesh (Kunal Nayyar), the roommates spend most of their time playing video games, reading comic books, and watching sci-fi movies.
IMDb explains, “As they are self-professed nerds, all have little or no luck with women.” Enter Penny, the waitress slash wannabe actress from Omaha who moves into their apartment building. Leonard puts all of his energy into making Penny his girlfriend, which eventually happens for the fun-loving nerd.
Later, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) join the crew, proving that even nerdy guys with little to no life experience are capable of love.
Penny is the ultimate girl next door – or in this case across the hall
Cuoco was the character that pulled The Big Bang Theory together, bringing another dimension to the otherwise geeky neighbors. Fans related most to her and how she reacted to the extraordinary intelligence of her awkward friends.
Show producers agreed Cuoco was an integral element to the series, explaining the reasoning behind the $900,000 per episode she was receiving by the end of the series.
Galecki, who once had an offscreen romantic relationship with Cuoco, told Insider, “Everything that everyone did complemented what someone else had to do.”
He explained: “It was just fantastic. There’s no recipe for that kind of chemistry.”
Cuoco’s favorite ‘Big Bang Theory’ episodes
Now that the one-of-a-kind iconic series is over, Cuoco has had the opportunity to think about her favorite episodes. She told TV Insider she liked “The Scavenger Vortex” in Season 7, Episode 3, “because it involved the whole cast.”
The episode involves Raj putting together a scavenger hunt that, according to TBS, turns into a “serious, cutthroat competition among the gang.”
Now starring in the HBO Max series The Flight Attendant, Cuoco said another favorite moment on The Big Bang Theory is when Sheldon hugs Penny for the first time. It happened in Season 2, Episode 11, titled “The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis.”
In that same episode, Penny gives Sheldon a napkin signed by Star Trek phenom Leonard Nimoy. She claimed that he wiped his mouth with it when she was working her waitress job at The Cheesecake Factory.
Cuoco said Penny “was always kind to [the guys].” She told TV Insider, “That’s why she was able to later make fun of them and joke with them because she had earned it because everyone knows how much she loves them.”
